SO. In brief: I got snookered. And now I’m in big trouble. B-IG. Thanks, “Music Scholar!”.
Wait… that other voice sounds like… Tom?
Tom Scharpling?
…
Naaah, it can’t be.  (Or can it?)
Well, even if I’m doomed, at least do something you’ll be proud of: donate to the upcoming WFMU Marathon 2011!  Details are at http://wfmu.org

Billy Squier’s “Rock Me Tonite” music video.

Tom Scharpling, host of WFMU’s The Best Show, described an old commercial of Charles Bronson for MANDOM (see previous entry) as akin to this video.

The music is different, and there are no gun shots.  But the nervous narcissism, the penthouse setting, and the agility of cloth lobbing is one-for-one.  Tom was on the money.

EDIT: Squier may have invented Britney Spears in this video the more I notice, and the more I shudder to my own soul.

Charles Bronson in MANDOM, the Japanese commercial from 1970.

While this has been around on the YouTubes for a while, a fellow named Chris called into public service radio station WFMU’s The Best Show (with host Tom Scharpling) last week (March 23, 2010) to submit this for the topic of good vs. bad celebrity product endorsements.

While Tom was describing the commercial live on the air, he compared it to a certain music video of the past, which I hadn’t seen until now… NEXT ENTRY.
